Educator, Journalist, Advocate for Student Voice

Hi there — and welcome.
I’m a media strategist, educator, and storyteller working at the intersection of journalism, education, and student leadership development.
As Director of Student Media at Rice University, I lead a department that supports three student-run organizations: The Rice Thresher newspaper, KTRU radio, and the Campanile yearbook. Together, we empower students to produce bold, high-impact work across platforms—building leadership, creativity, and strategy into everything we do.
Before joining Rice, I was a tenure-track journalism professor at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where I also served as editorial director of the Howard University News Service. There, I mentored student journalists reporting on underserved communities and partnered with Black-owned news outlets to address media deserts and diversify national news coverage.
Earlier in my career, I launched the Illinois Student Newsroom at Illinois Public Media (NPR/PBS) and helped unify and modernize the student media program at the University of Vermont.
